The weather that's been inundating the North Island is easing as the heavy band of rain begins to lose power with the worst of it behind Auckland and Northland.
However, much of the east coast of the North Island won't see a reprieve until tomorrow at the earliest.
MetService meteorologist April Clark says it looks like the worst is over, though there were still chances of heavy rainfall.
The heavy rain warning for Great Barrier Island, Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato from Morrinsville eastwards, Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua and Taupo is still in place and applies until 11 tomorrow night.
Marlborough has had 198.5mm of rain in the past 24 hours, but the worst has passed.
The wet weather also led to the cancellation for the first time ever of today's Big Gay Out.
