UPDATED 11.30AM: A baby appears to have escaped almost unscathed after a near-miss at a train station in Manurewa.
Auckland Transport spokesman Mark Hannan says the baby was in a double pram which rolled onto the tracks just before nine this morning.
A train pulling into the station managed to stop about 20 metres from the pram.
A St John spokesperson says while an ambulance was called, there turned out to be a nurse on the scene who attended to the baby.
The baby's father was planning to take the child to a medical centre for a check-up later today.
It's understood the baby only had very minor injuries.
