Auckland Zoo's lonely elephant Burma is finally about to receive a new friend.

Anjalee has arrived safely in Auckland thanks to the Defence Force which flew her in on a Hercules.

The eight-year-old is from Sri Lanka's Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and is one of two elephants to arrive from there.

Auckland Zoo contributes over $1 million a year to help protect and conserve wildlife - inluding elephants in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Sumatra.

Visitors can expect to catch a glimpse of Anjalee once she's settled into her new home.
