A $66,000 fine for an Auckland chain of Indian restaurants, after they failed to provide employment records.
The Employment Relations Authority has ordered 11 companies operating as the Masala restaurants to pay six thousand dollars each for not providing wage and time records, holiday and leave records, and employment agreements for around 100 staff.
Labour Inspectorate Northern Regional Manager David Milne says failure to maintain records is not some technical omission.
He says if employers don't keep required records is is almost certain their staff are not getting their entitlements.
A significant number of Masala employees are recent migrants to New Zealand.
The ERA acknowledges migrant workers are a particularly vulnerable section of the workforce.
