Updated 12.26pm: Weta Workshop and Te Papa Museum have worked together to create an interactive exhibition marking 100 years since the Gallipoli landing.

A powhiri, and blessing of Gallipoli: The Scale of our War began at 6.00am at Te Papa.

Te Papa says the exhibition is a combination of the worlds of movies, model making and museums - designed to take visitors on a journey back to Gallipoli.

Weta Workshops Sir Richard Taylor has been involved in the project - which brings the creativity of Weta together with the museum.

Sir Richard Taylor has spoken of the emotional toll it's taken to put together a new exhibition on Gallipoli for Te Papa.

Sir Richard says it's been a major undertaking to get to this point.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this exhibition with Te Papa but I'm ready to leave it now we've completed it, because these stories are very powerful, and very sad in many cases."

This morning descendants of those who fought at Gallipoli will be the first to see the exhibition, in a private viewing.

The exhibition opens to the general public tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park will be officially opened tomorrow, and a light show that will run for all of ANZAC week will screen for the first time.

Next Friday a parade will make its way through Wellington's CBD to the new memorial park - where the dawn service will take place on ANZAC Day.
