Federated Farmers says there's no cause for concern, despite another Canterbury farm testing positive for a bacterial cattle disease.

Mycoplasma bovis is common in the rest of the world, but was first detected in New Zealand this year.

The latest infected property is a Van Leeuwen Dairy Group farm, and was already under a Restricted Place notice.

Federated Farmers are staying upbeat though.

Biosecurity spokesman Guy Wigley says if it had popped up with no connection to the original farms, it would be a concern.

"At the moment it's still contained within known properties, so that's really encouraging.

"Hopefully within another week or two we might have enough test results and different scenarios can be contemplated."

The disease was first found on a South Canterbury farm in July.

It brings the total number of farms confirmed with the disease to seven.
