Nine in 10 Kiwi kids believe the world would be a better place if world leaders listened to children.

However, six in 10 of them also believe the Government and world leaders don’t listen to them.

The numbers come from local results in a global Unicef survey, which is being released to mark World Children's Day today.

The organisation asked children aged nine to 18 about issues important to them, and how they see their standing within society.

The data shows 89% of New Zealand youth fret about poverty, while 86% are vexed about violence against children.

A whopping 93% worry a lot, or sometimes, about bullying.

Unicef's Child Rights Education Advisor, Jacqui Southey isn't surprised it's an issue but is surprised by the size of the issues. 

''93% is very high. One would hope it would be a lot less than that.''

She said children are hugely affected by bullying and we need to include them as part of the solution.

She also said the results show a mismatch.

''They know about issues affecting children and global issues, but they are also quite aware that they are not listened to.''

The report reveals children do feel listened to by family and friends, and their teachers.
