Activists are promising to continue protesting until the Government launches an inquiry into allegations against the SAS in Afghanistan.

Nicky Hager and Jon Stephenson are standing by allegations in their book Hit & Run, claiming a 2010 SAS raid in Afghanistan led to civilian deaths.

These allegations are a major focus of this afternoon's 'Protest for Peace' at Auckland's Aotea Square, as is the so-called aggressive rhetoric of US president Donald Trump.

Auckland Peace Action spokeswoman Virginia Lambert says the issue will continue to be a subject of protests until an inquiry is launched.

"The New Zealand public isn't that inspired with Bill English's response, which is to say that he didn't think any war crimes happened"

The Auckland Protest for Peace is calling for New Zealand to challenge the international escalation of militarism and conflict.

Ms Lambert said the best way to do that is to reduce military operations and increase the refugee quota.

"Bombs rain death, and they can't bring peace. If we want to help the only way we can is really to welcome refugees, welcome the victims of war."
