Ten pairs of kiwi are being reintroduced to a sanctuary on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula this weekend.
Ten male little spotted kiwi from Tiritiri Matangi Island and 10 females from Kapiti Island will be set free in the Shakespear Open Sanctuary.
It's a fenced 500-hectare wildlife sanctuary which has been pest-free for five years.
The birds are getting very special treatment, with a powhiri from Ngati Manuhiri before they're released in secluded part of the bush.
