Six hundred tourists remain in a small town on the west coast of the South Island
The tourists and locals in Haast are into their third day cut off from the rest of the country.
State Highway 6 has been cut off on both sides of the township since ex-tropical cyclone Fehi barrelled through on Thursday.
Haast Beach General Store owner Nicola Johnston isn't sure how long her fresh supplies will last.
"We would normally have had freight delivered and obviously that's not come in, I have got hotels as well and out linen is running a little low, but we are making do."
A delivery of milk was flown in last night and the store has frozen meat and supplies of bread.
Johnston is hoping there'll be some improvement on the road over the weekend as provisions become more stretched each day.
"If the road opens at all, in either direction, over the weekend that will obviously relieve a little of that pressure, if some of the tourists are able to get out. I think the locals are fairly resilient so we'll survive."
