The Auditor General's launched an inquiry into the Queenstown Lakes District Council and its chief executive over land management.

It'll look into how chief executive Adam Feeley managed the interest in land owned by his family, considered for a special housing area by the council.

This follows several requests from residents to look into the issue, including any involvement he had in developing the housing accord and council policies.

The requests raise issues of trust and confidence in the councils processes.
