Motorists in Southland are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to take extreme care on the roads as thick, low-lying fog is affecting visibility across much of the region.
Tonight's foggy conditions have reduced visibility to as little as 30 metres in some areas.
Police remind drivers to drive to the conditions and ensure their headlights, not parklights, are on.
Drivers also need to be very aware of other road users who may not be seen easily in the fog - this includes cyclists and pedestrians, as well as slower traffic, trucks and vehicles that may be towing trailers.
