The New Zealand public is being invited to weigh in on the 'H' debate in Whanganui.

The New Zealand Geographic Board is now seeking public consultation on whether to add an H in the name of the Wanganui District.

The city itself is correct both with and without the H, and the river is officially spelt with the H.

Geographic Board Chair Mark Dyer says consultation is not limited to the Whanganui area alone.

"We welcome submissions from individuals no matter where they are, or organisations. Any interested parties."
