The Northland DHB is top of the country when it comes to mothers breastfeeding their newborns.

At 94%, the Northland DHB has the most newborns discharged from their care who are fed exclusively on breast milk.

Baby Friendly Hospital coordinator Helen Parker says they meet up with other DHBs twice a year to further improve their track record and share their expertise.

"Just discuss how we're going, and what's happening, and any new things that we are doing to support women. Get ideas from each otherabout where we are at and programmes we can be doing."

Helen Parker says offering fantastic support and information to expectant mothers is the key to their success.
