Police have issued a warning to the people gathering to pay their respects to the three young people killed in a house fire in Hamilton.

23-year-old Toni Johnston, 19-year-old Jake Hayes, and 17-year-old Connor Sweetman died in the fire at the weekend.

Acting City Area Commander, Inspector Marcus Lynam, says on Tuesday night a drunk man was arrested after he became abusive and lashed out - striking a female officer in the head.

He says things were no better on Wednesday when police had to deal with more drunk teenagers with two drivers arrested for excess breath alcohol and another for sustained loss of traction.

Inspector Lynam says another four people were arrested last night after turning on police.
