The All Blacks Sevens side have suffered another blow to their Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign.
13th man Caleb Clarke will miss the Games with acute appendicitis which has forced him to be taken to hospital in Brisbane.
The 19-year-old Aucklander, the son of former All Black Eroni Clarke, will have emergency surgery in Brisbane on Tuesday, New Zealand Commonwealth Games team organisers have confirmed.
The team arrived on the Gold Coast on Sunday and Clarke informed medical staff of his complaint that evening.
"He is being supported by the New Zealand team medical staff and his family," the team said in a statement.
"We wish him well for his recovery."
It comes just a day after playmaker Ngarohi McGarvey-Black was also ruled out of the Games through injury.
Rising star Etene Nanai-Seturo, 18, has been named McGarvey-Black's replacement but the team is yet to name one for Clarke.
Meanwhile, women's player Kat Whata-Simpkins, 27, has suffered a leg injury and will be replaced in the squad by 20-year-old Tenika Willison. Alena Saili joins the team as the travelling reserve.
The sevens competitions start on Friday week at Robina Stadium.
