From next to no opportunities in Zimbabwe to having a successful acting career in Wellington.

Keagan Fransch is going from strength to strength and has just been accepted into the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London where the likes of Dame Judy Dench studied.

She says she wouldn't have dreamed of Wellington's acting opportunities while growing up in Africa.

“It was never really a career option, I never really grew up being aware that I could do this. So, when I came to New Zealand and I saw that’s actually on the list and that people you know who make a living from this, I thought that’s fantastic.”

After working in Wellington's drama scene she says there needs to be more stories about what it's like to be a culturally diverse kiwi.

“Do we need another play that’s about upper middle class white people and the problems that they have? I don’t know if we need quite so many of those things.

What about plays about other kiwis or what about plays that are written by people that aren’t from upper middle class New Zealand. What about that?”

She plans to play a part in that on her return from London.
