U2 frontman Bono has undergone hours of surgery and will need intensive therapy after a bicycle accident in the US.

Doctors revealed yesterday that the 54-year-old's injuries were worse than previously thought.

Bono fell off his bicycle on Sunday in New York's Central Park as the band prepared for a week-long residency on NBC's The Tonight Show.

He's had a bone in his arm repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws....then went back into surgery the following day for treatment on his left hand.
