Zac Franich, the star of the third Bachelor New Zealand series, has chosen Viarni Bright in the finale of the show on Sunday.

The 28-year-old surf lifesaving coach from Orewa, north of Auckland, said the day was the biggest of his life.

"From the first moment I saw you I just felt this little spark," Franich told Bright.

Bright, a 22-year-old account manager from Mount Maunganui, was a hot favourite from day one and won a first impression rose.

Dressed in a bright red she accepted a ring in a courtyard scene at the end of the show.

The last show featured separate visits to meet Franich's family by the two finale contestants and low-key last dates. The other remaining contestant was Lily McManus, an Australian snowboard instructor who lived in Wellington.

Followers of the show have praised this series and shared opinions about who the bachelor would favour.

"I love them both so I just hope he picks whoever he feels is best for him so they can have a happy life together," one person posted on Facebook.

The women in the show are due to tell all in a follow-up programme on Monday.
