The final TV comedy special recorded by late Kiwi comedian John Clarke has aired in Australia.

The episode of Clarke and Dawe, a satirical segment that had run on ABCTV every Thursday night for 25 years, went online today.

A note before the special says it was recorded on April 5, just days before Clarke's death at the age of 68 while hiking in the Grampians National Park in Victoria on April 9.

The series saw Bryan Dawe interview Clarke each week, who would pretend to be a prominant spokesperson on a particular subject.

In his final episode, Clarke plays the role of Richard Shinery, a specialist from a fictional company who explains things - like crowdfunding, fake news or ScarJo - to people who "haven't got it yet".

Clarke's death saw an outpouring of grief from family, friends and fans in New Zealand, where he was famous for creating the character Fred Dagg in the 1970s.
