Auckland will play host to the second annual West Fest at Mt Smart Stadium today.

The hard-edged festival will feature some of the biggest names in heavy metal and pop punk.

That includes acts like Faith No More, Soundgarden and chart-topping Fall Out Boy.

23-year-old promoter Olly Martin says he's amped for the festival, which 12,000 people are expected to attend.

"I'm stoked West Fest is happening again for a second year."

"We're still on a learning curve, but I couldn't of done it without the co-operation of bands, managers and agents."
