The 75th Golden Globe awards will be the first major Hollywood awards ceremony since the Weinstein scandal shook the entertainment industry, and many women who attend are expected to make a statement by wearing black.

The Time's Up Now movement, founded by some 300 women working in film, television and theatre, has asked women walking the red carpet to wear the colour to make a statement and further raise awareness of workplace sexual harassment and assault.

The women hope their unity at the high-profile event will help eradicate abuse, harassment, marginalisation and under-representation of women in the workplace across all industries, especially less visible ones in agriculture, domestic work and hospitality.

Among the prominent Hollywood actresses behind Times Up Now are Shonda Rhimes and Reese Witherspoon, according to Variety magazine.

The Golden Globes will be presented in 25 categories honouring the best in film and television. The ceremony in Beverley Hills, California will begin at 5 pm on Sunday (11 am Monday AEDT) hosted by US television personality Seth Meyers.

Australians Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, and Hugh Jackman are all up for a gong.
