A pedestrian has died after being struck by a bus in Rotorua this evening.
The woman was hit by the bus on the corner of Te Ngae Road and Coulter Road at 7.40pm.
Traffic is being diverted around the scene, where the road will be closed for several hours.
Diversions are in place at SH30 and Pohutukawa Dr, and SH30 and Sunrise Ave.
Sanjita Mainali, an attendant at Great Spice Indian Takeaway on Te Ngae Rd, said the woman who was hit bought a rice and curry off her shortly before the crash.
Ms Mainali realised it was the woman when she saw her black backpack lying on the side of the road.
The woman, who was aged about 40, was alone. She had traveled from somewhere and was planning to stay in Rotorua for the night before travelling again, Ms Mainali said.
The woman had taken a takeaway menu with her so she could order takeaways again for lunch tomorrow, Ms Mainali said.
