Vector says there's a risk this weekend's bad weather could spark power outages in Auckland.

Winds shouldn't be as strong as storm that left thousands without power earlier this month.

But Vector warns a lot of damages trees around the city are still fragile.

Head of Network Programme Delivery Minoru Frederiksens says they've stood down crews today so they're fresh and ready to deal with what's to come.

"We've stood down six or seven crews, so there will be quite a few careers available from about three' o'clock onwards tomorrow afternoon."

A severe weather watch is in place.
