UPDATED: 8.00PM Two people have been killed in a two-vehicle crash in Northland.

One person was cut from a vehicle.

Emergency services are currently at the crash on State Highway 10 at Oromahoe in the Far North, a northern Fire Service spokeswoman said.

Police confirmed two cars were involved in the collision on State Highway 10, at the junction of Puketona Road in Oromahoe, this evening.

Six people - two in one car and four in the other - were involved.

Police said two people in the second vehicle were fatally injured in the crash. The other pair in that vehicle were also injured, but their injuries were not life-threatening, authorities said.

Two people in the first vehicle were also injured, but not seriously.

Police and other emergency services - including the Serious Crash Unit - remain at the scene.

The immediate area will be closed off for several hours and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or expect delays. Diversions are in place at State Highway 1 and State Highway 10 Northbound.
