UPDATED 5.54pm: The southbound lane of State Highway One at Pukerua Bay north of Wellington has reopened after a slip closed it this afternoon, causing a traffic headache on the main road into the capital.
Police have thanked motorists for their patience.
Contractors and Police worked to clear the slip as quickly as possible, with light traffic diverted to the Paekakariki Hill Road while this happened.
Heavy traffic was stopped at Fisherman’s Table and let through when possible.
