A pillion passenger on a motorcycle has been killed in North Canterbury, bringing the Queen's Birthday weekend road death toll to two.
Police say witnesses report that a south-bound motorcycle collided with the rear of a stationary car, which was waiting to turn right onto Harleston Road.
She was then hit by an oncoming vehicle.
The motorcycle rider is in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital.
One other person was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
