UPDATED 10.23AM: Rain has stalled the search for two boaties missing off the South Island's West Coast.

Police were searching for the men yesterday after a pilot spotted debris and a life raft on the shoreline of Jackson Bay.

A helicopter rescued one man from Neils Beach, and he was taken to hospital, but two men are still thought to be missing.
