Police are searching for a teenager who went missing after attending a party in the Coromandel.

Luke Cochrane, 19, was last seen just before midnight at a function at the Whitianga Fire Station.

Police and search and rescue teams in Whitianga are searching for him and police say they are "concerned for Mr Cochrane's safety due to the length of time he has been missing and the fact that he is not from Whitianga and does not know the area".

He is described as European, 182cm tall and of medium build with short sandy colured hair.

When he was last seen, he was wearing a black T-shirt, dark blue jeans, a black peaked cap and Nike shoes which are white, red and blue.

Police asked people in Whitianga to check their properties, including garages or out-buildings.

Anyone with information about Cochrane's whereabouts is asked to call 111.
