A person is trapped after the car they were in hit a power pole south of Auckland this morning.

Fire Service spokeswoman Carren Larking said firefighters are now at Karaka Road in Karaka, waiting to cut the person out.

"They need to make the scene safe, and we have to wait for the power company to isolate the power so we can rescue the person," she said.

Police and ambulance officers are also at the scene.
