One person has died, and a number of others are injured, after a mini-van rolled south of Spring Creek in the Marlborough District this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway One, around half past four.

A St John Spokesperson said one person is in a critical condition and is being taken to Wellington Hospital by helicopter, and another four people are being transported by road to Blenheim Hospital.

The road is currently closed, and diversions are in place, but motorists are being asked to avoid the area or delay travel where possible.
