A man has died while Police were raiding his Bay of Plenty house today.

The man, who was handcuffed, collapsed and died in his Te Puke home just before 9am.

Officers on the scene immediately removed the handcuffs and began CPR, but the man was pronounced dead when Ambulance staff arrived.

Police say the man in his 50s collapsed because of a medical event.

A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
