Fire crews will spend another day trying to tame the blaze that's been burning at Glenorchy near Queenstown.
It started at a campground near Rat Point late on Tuesday night.
Helicopters and dozens of fighters on the ground from around the region contained it yesterday.
Some staff have stayed to patrol the area overnight.
Principal Rural Fire Officer Phil Marsh says extra ground crews and helicopters will be there from first light.
He says that's so hotspots can be dampened and the fire kept in the area it's already scorched.
