A man's body has been recovered from the Waitemata Harbour, after an incident on Auckland's Harbour Bridge.

The clip-on lanes of the bridge heading into the city were closed for about 20 minutes and drivers asked to avoid the area if possible.

The NZTA only said an "incident" closed the lanes, but they have now reopened.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and the matter will be referred to the Coroner.
