Five teenage girls are injured after a car smashed into an underpass in Waikato.

The accident occurred on Friday at 9.30pm on Lake Arapuni Road near Waotu.

The Waikato Rescue Helicopter was sent to the scene that injured the five teens in the car, which hit a farmer's concrete underpass.

The 17-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger received multiple injuries and were flown to Waikato Hospital for treatment and further assessment.

The remaining three passengers were taken by road to Waikato Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
