Fire crews are trying to isolate and contain a leak from a vessel containing 300 kgs of ammonia, at a plant in West Auckland.
A Fire Service spokesperson said they received a call just before 5am.
Eleven fire trucks and support cars are at the scene in Corban Avenue in Henderson.
Motorists are being advised to avoid both Corban Avenue and Bruce McLaren Drive.
