A police spokeswoman said the injured man was taken to Auckland City Hospital with moderate injuries.
The shopowner, who lived on the premises, raised the alarm after the vehicle mounted the footpath and crashed into the street-front building.
A tow truck had removed the vehicle from the wrecked shop before traffic started flowing on the busy inner city road.
