The body of a person has been found in the burnt out remains of a house in Auckland.

The Fire Service was called to the Brown Street property in Ponsonby just after 2am.

Vaughn Davis lives two houses away from the fire.

He tweeted that police called his mobile at 2.45am to tell him to leave the property.

He's posted several photographs of emergency services at the scene, including one of a dog rescued from the fire which he took to his house.
