UPDATED 11.30AM: A group of females who ended up huffing aerosols at a Rolleston youth detention facility were being treated for headlice at the time.

Emergency services treated eight young women for inhalation at the Te Puna Wai centre just after six thirty this morning.

Two were taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Child Youth and Family, which manages the facility, has confirmed centre staff were treating a number of young people for headlice when two attempted to inhale the product.

Emergency procedures were followed.

The two who were taken to hospital were discharged shortly after being assessed.
