There's concern for a man who's overdue on a hunting trip in the Waikato.

57-year-old Alan Phillips went hunting on his own on Saturday morning.

He spoke to his family at around seven that evening, indicating he'd be back by last night and would call if anything changed.

But there's been no contact, and he only had enough food for one day and no camping equipment.

Police are appealing for anyone in the vicinity of the Pureora Forest to keep an eye out for his white double cab Toyota Hilux, with signs on the doors.
