A child is safe after being pulled from the ceiling at Auckland's Starship Hospital.

Fire crews had to bring in a ladder to rescue the patient form a ceiling cavity at the hospital this morning.

The child was discovered in the ceiling cavity in the high-rise paediatric hospital at around eight o'clock this morning.

They appear to have spent the whole night there.

Auckland District Health Board says the situation has been resolved and the young person is now safe.
