A car has driven through a superette in Papamoa's Fashion Island in the Tauranga area this afternoon.

Sergeant Wayne Hunter says a man was parking his car outside when, for some reason, he put his foot on the accelerator and the car went straight into the building.

The driver and a woman in the passenger seat appeared to be okay, but a woman working in the shop behind the counter was taken to hospital with a leg injury.
