Two homes have been destroyed and one badly damaged in a string of fires in the South Island.
Blazes in Springvale in central Otago, and Hokonui in Southland have gutted two houses.
Fire crews from surrounding districts were called to the Hokonui blaze - everyone inside the home got out without being hurt.
The Springfield fire two hours later involved crews from Alexandra, Clyde and Omakau.
Investigators are going back to both houses this morning to find out what sparked the fires
A home in Christchurch has extensive smoke damage from the third fire, which broke out in its laundry area at about 7.30.
