UPDATED 6:00pm:

A 24 year-old man has been charged with murder, over an alleged attack on a woman in Auckland.

The man is accused of attacking a woman who was exercising on Shore Rd in Remuera.

Her body was found on a residential property by residents and a post-mortem examination will be carried out this evening.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper says the man turned himself into Auckland Central Police Station around midday along with what's believed to be the weapon used to injure her.

He will appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper, the officer in charge of the homicide investigation, says they are confident there is no further risk to the public

Police launched a homicide investigation after a body was found on the porch of a house in Remuera in "potentially suspicious" circumstances this morning.

Emergency services attended the scene on Shore Rd in the upmarket suburb.

It is understood a woman died after receiving fatal injuries, and the residents of a house called for help.

Auckland City Police Senior Sergeant Grant Miller said the grisly discovery happened shortly before 11am.

A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances were dispatched at 10.49am, and arrived minutes later.

However, the victim had already died from her injuries.

A resident of the street said it had been closed to residents and there was a large police presence there.

"A lot of cop cars have gone by and the street is closed," said the resident, who wished not to be named.

Police do not believe residents of the Shore Rd address are connected with the woman's death and Detective Inspector Hooper says it appears she was attacked somewhere nearby.
