A boost for trades trying to find skilled workers.
The first campus for the Wellington Regional School of Construction has been officially opened this morning.
WelTec and Whitireia have joined forces to establish the school, which will train up 220 students every year for the construction sector.
By the end of the month, there will be a construction training campus and an engineering campus in Petone.
WelTec chief executive Linda Sissons says skilled people in trades and engineering are in high demand.
"There's an enormous amount going on including of course residential construction."
Linda Sissons says they've invested $14 million into the venture.
"It's a wonderful site for a very large and comprehensive school of construction, which will cover all the construction trades and disciplines."
