A review of the way students have been treated at an Auckland school is being welcomed by the country's biggest education union.
Pacific Christian School in Mangere has had its registration suspended, and police have issued formal warnings to four teachers.
It follows claims teachers have been dishing out physical discipline.
NZEI President Louise Green said it's good to know steps are being taken to ensure students are safe.
"What's really great is that the children will be going into other schools, where they'll be welcomed and they'll be transitioned in, and their learning can continue."
The Mangere school first hit headlines last year, when an 11-year-old allegedly stabbed another student in the head with scissors.
The Ministry of Education said there are "serious and ongoing concerns" about students' safety and welfare at the school.
It's is the first time the Ministry had suspended a private school's registration.
