West Auckland families will have a new choice of school for their children in the new year.The Villa Education Trust has announced its new charter school, Middle School West Auckland, will open its doors to its pupils in February.Typically the students will spend their morning dedicated to academic work and the afternoon doing education outside the classroom.Trust founder Alwyn Poole says the school's curriculum focuses on developing a diverse set of skills."We want the children to be around and we want them to have opportunities to develop their sporting skills and to be fit."We want them to develop their music and their art. Again, if they pick up those in Year 11 and later on in life that they've got a great base for them to do so."Alwyn Poole says the school's unique structure and curriculum will provide the children with a range of abilities that'll bode well for their futures.He adds the success of the trust's first charter school in South Auckland shows its model is working well."The children are making remarkable progress. We just had our first Education Review Office report for South Auckland Middle School and they're very happy."The new school will cater for up to 240 students across years seven to ten.
