There will be a show of solidarity from National to charter schools today, following a protest against their closing led by the Act Party yesterday.

National Party Leader Bill English and education spokesperson Nikki Kaye will visit charter school, Pacific Advance Secondary School, in south Auckland this morning.

Nikki Kaye says the potential closure of their school has put them in a difficult position and they are going to offer support.

"The main purpose is to really ensure those students and those families know that we're going to fight for them and that we're there to walk along beside them," she said.

Nikki Kaye says Charter Schools are working, and she hopes the Government will take the time to visit and see that for themselves.

"It's a really difficult time for these young people," Ms Kaye says.

"The Government has sent out mixed messages, has had bad communication and left a whole lot of uncertainty."

Ms Kaye plans to visit other charter schools across the country over the next few weeks.
