Primary teachers are once again calling on the Government to abandon the National Standards system.
Education Minister Nikki Kaye has used data based on the standards, to support her call for higher achievement in maths and writing.
But the NZEI said the Standards cause students unnecessary stress, and have a negative impact on their learning.
Lynda Stuart said Standards do not actually help teachers improve outcomes. She said they are a blunt instrument, and do not paint an accurate picture of how students are faring.
