Search teams have so far been unable to find a Dunedin man missing since leaving work nearly a week ago.

Stephen Lowe left from Portsmouth Drive on Friday morning and has not been seen or heard from since.

Police, 31 Land Search and Rescue volunteers, three search dogs and a helicopter continued the search for Mr Lowe on Wednesday.

Police say the aerial operation was limited by the dense native bush, but a significant amount of land and tracks was covered around the McLean Falls area.

Swift water searchers will be arriving from Dunedin on Thursday.

Senior Sergeant Cynthia Fairley says police want to hear from two people - "Mike and Talia" - who were tramping in the area over the weekend.

The pair could be from Dunedin.

A member of the public found Mr Lowe's black BMW at the Catlins Conservation Park on Tuesday and Sen Sgt Fairley says there are serious concerns for his safety.
